MRSA Sucks

We just found out yesterday that Esther has MRSA, which accounts for the three staph infections she's had this summer. It really, really sucks. Now she's on Clindamycin after two rounds of Bactrim. I've fallen into the disinfecting routine--constant handwashing, bleaching the bathroom down every day. Towels washed every day, sheets washed three times a week, her clothes are all washed hot with bleach added. I look her over every night at bathtime to see if there are any little "mosquito bites". Every little bite or scratch gets swabbed with tea tree oil (which has been great, actually--but I missed this last one somehow).

Now I feel like we're a house of leprosy--there's so many associations with bad hygiene and slovenliness. And there's so little real information about it online. I'm keeping her away from her friends for a few days to avoid any of them picking it up.
Does anyone else have kids with this? Does the bacteria finally go away or do the infections keep recurring? I'm so tired of worrying about her--the infections are really awful.

I've never even heard of it. But with anything that funky it must be feel like there's leprosy in your house. Hope she gets better asap!

I just looked it up and like you said it causes staph infections..I didn't realize how serious it was. As a mom that must be frustrating and scary. If it were me I'd be bugging the doctor often about treatments.Sending good thoughts your way .

Yeah, it's incredibly frustrating. It seems like doctors are kinda vague about it all:
"All you can do is wash your hands often, don't share towels, toiletries, bedding, etc, blah blah blah."
Well, no kidding! What do they think we've been doing for the last two months?! And it still comes back, so either the drugs aren't killing the bacteria or she's getting reinfected somehow.
Thanks for the kind thoughts, Christine--I've got my fingers crossed that no other moms I know go through this.

Oh Amy, I'm so sorry for little Esther and you. This has got to be maddening! I wish I could help.

And this is an example of why I'm still not sure that Stacy and I will see eye to eye on child-rearing. He believes that dirt and germs are good and will help build up their immunities and I feel, well, differently, about it.

I hope this doesn't stop Esther from wanting to play in "the dirt" because ...well....just because. Amy thank-you for bringing MRSA to our attention and yeah...it sure does suck. I'll google it and get a better understanding. By the way..I love your paintings...esp the EYES. I see so much soul.
